Design, product, analysis and engineering for media

Every discipline can be hired on its own. Combined, they take a media product from the first conversation with viewers to a platform serving them at scale.

01

Viewer experiences that work on every screen, from phone to living-room TV.

FigmaDesign TokensStorybookMazeWCAG 2.2

We design apps and interfaces people use to watch, listen, read and buy tickets. That means research with actual viewers and editors, navigation that works with a TV remote as well as a thumb, design systems shared across web, mobile and connected TV, and prototypes tested before engineering commits a sprint.

Services
  • Viewer and editor research, with usability tests on real devices
  • Browse, search and playback flows for streaming apps
  • Interfaces for smart TV, connected TV and set-top boxes
  • Design systems shared across web, mobile and TV
  • Accessibility audits to WCAG 2.2, including subtitles and captions
What changes
  • More sign-ups completing the subscription flow
  • Viewers finding their next title faster
  • One visual language on every platform you ship to
02

A roadmap built around your release calendar and your subscribers.

JiraLinearMetabaseOKRGoogle AdsMeta Ads

We take on product leadership for streaming services, media apps and editorial platforms, for a set period or alongside your own product lead. We set priorities against audience and revenue goals, line the roadmap up with content releases and live events, and leave your team with discovery and measurement routines it can keep running.

Services
  • Product strategy for subscription, ad-supported and hybrid models
  • Roadmaps planned around content releases and live events
  • Discovery with viewers, editors and commercial teams
  • Audience KPIs, engagement metrics and analytics instrumentation
  • Interim product leadership and coaching for in-house teams
What changes
  • A roadmap your content, marketing and tech teams all back
  • Priorities you can defend with audience data
  • Launches that land on the date that was announced

Audience, revenue and launch risk put into numbers you can act on.

PythonNumPy/PandasRClickHouseKafkaMonte CarloSurvival analysis

We model questions media businesses usually answer on gut feel: which subscribers are about to leave, what title is likely to earn across windows and territories, how much traffic a premiere will bring, and what happens to the schedule if a delivery slips. Every model comes documented and explained, so your commercial team and your board can check the working.

Services
  • Subscriber churn, retention and lifetime value models
  • Audience and revenue forecasting by title, window and territory
  • Scenario analysis for release plans, rights deals and launches
  • Operational and delivery risk for premieres and live events
  • Ad inventory and yield analysis, with automated reporting
What changes
  • Churn and audience risk tracked every week
  • Reporting generated automatically from source data
  • Forecasts your board can question and still rely on

Platforms that stay fast when the whole audience turns up at once.

TypeScriptNext.jsNestJSGoHLS/DASHKubernetesTerraformAWS

We build media platforms and fix the ones already running: content management systems, video and audio delivery, recommendation services, ticketing and subscriber back ends. We judge the work by how the system holds up at peak audience, what it costs per hour of content served, and how easily your own engineers can change it later.

Services
  • Web and app development for streaming, publishing and ticketing
  • Content catalogues, CMS and metadata pipelines
  • Video and audio delivery, CDN setup and playback performance
  • Load testing and scaling for premieres and live events
  • Cloud cost reduction, CI/CD and production monitoring
What changes
  • Stable playback and checkout at peak audience
  • Lower delivery and infrastructure costs
  • A codebase your engineers can keep extending
Services

2–3 weeks

Diagnostic

A short review of an app, a platform, a funnel or a release plan, ending with priorities and cost estimates.

2–6 months

Fixed-price project

Agreed scope, agreed price and a delivery date. Suited to launches, relaunches and platform rebuilds.

Month to month

Embedded team

A team reserved for you each month, working inside your product organisation and your release cycle.

Approach

Five phases, loosely borrowed from the way a production runs. Each one closes with something you can review and sign off.

  1. 01

    Brief

An hour with you on the problem, the audience and the dates that cannot move. We tell you plainly whether we are the right studio for it, and we say so when we are not.

DeliverableWritten brief and a recommended next step

  2. 02

    Pre-production

We agree scope, measurable goals, risks and the date everything works back from. Work starts once both sides have signed off on what success looks like.

DeliverableProposal with scope, schedule and a fixed price

  3. 03

    Production

Short sprints, each ending with a demo on real devices with real content. You work directly with the designers, analysts and engineers doing the job.

DeliverableWorking builds and a demo every fortnight

  4. 04

    Release

Before launch we load test, try the build on every target device and agree how to roll back. Then we watch the numbers with you through the first days in front of an audience.

DeliverableLaunch, monitoring and a post-launch review

  5. 05

    Support

Code, documentation and training go to your team. We stay on call while your people take over, and we plan for that to happen quickly.

DeliverableDocumentation, handover and a plan for the next season

Get in touch

Half an hour on a call is usually enough for both sides to know whether we should work together. There is no obligation and nobody will try to sell you anything.
